Rimmel London Wake Me Up Concealer Review

Hello Beauties!

So I noticed that I have gotten into a pattern of only reviewing products that I love.. I do apologize! I just don’t want this to be a negative place, yet I understand the need for versatility! So here comes my first negative review.. sigh. I am so gutted that I am doing this as I really wanted to love this product. I am reviewing the Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer and I’ll be honest I only bought this product for the mixed reviews and I wanted to be one of those people that love this concealer, but unfortunately I didn’t. I really gave this concealer a good chance and I have been using it every chance since I bought it, but now it is time for that dreaded review. Let’s begin…

Small Disclaimer

Everything mentioned is completely my own opinion and I will be 100% honest about it. I will not boast about a product I do not love and I will do my best to give you every reasoning you can think of as to why. These are my own opinions, they are not to persuade you against any product(s) mentioned.

Product Specification

So this concealer states it is a ‘Full coverage concealer containing instant anti-fatigue effect with peptides and vitamin moisturising complex. Visibly reawakens and illuminates under the eyes. Completely conceals spots and other blemishes.’

Colour Range

This product comes in three shades: Ivory, Classic Beige and Soft Beige. The range is limited, but there are a lot of other concealer collections that are also limited. My problem as a pale girl is that the colour ‘010 Ivory’ was slightly too dark for my skin type, it is most definitely not good for my under eye highlight and it was even too dark to blend in with my foundation when applying it on blemishes. I also noticed there are no warmer/darker shades avaliable at all.

I was expecting a thick consistency as it was a ‘full coverage’ concealer, yet it has a much thinner consistency than I thought. It also feels greasy to me, and when I blended it out the coverage wasn’t as full as i’d like, but it wasn’t bad. As it was a thinner consistency I found that it creased on me badly!. The one thing I did like about this concealer is that it didn’t feel heavy under my eyes! We have a positive people!  I have taken a photo of the Wake Me Up Concealer (left) next to the Collection Lasting Finish Concealer (right) to show you the difference in consistancy. You can see that the Wake Me Up Concealer is thinner. It doesn’t look much darker on the photo, but in real life you can really see the difference! These swatches are with one small swipe of product.

Like I just mentioned, the coverage wasn’t as full as I would have personally liked.. but it does give a natural finish. It just didn’t cover those horrid dark circles that I try so hard to hide! I like a fresh face, so covering those is a must for me really! I also found that the coverage it did have didn’t last as long as i’d like, even when I set it with a powder. Gradually throughout the days it would start to reveal my red patches and dark circles.. I had hope though! When trying to cover some blemishes on my face, it really done a poor job at covering anything.. If anything it made it look worse as the colour wasn’t right either, and I just had dark patches all over my face because it didn’t blend with my foundation.. I don’t want to go on!  Let’s look at some positives..

The price of this concealer is great! It is drugstore, so you would only be setting yourself back a meer £5.49..

I actually think the packaging of this concealer is pretty! It comes in a tube, like many others. You can’t really miss this one as it has a bright orange lid, and I love orange! It clearly states what the concealer does and the colour, so it is easy to pick and choose your shade.

Final Thoughts…

So my final thoughts on this product are as follows:

  • A great price!
  • Beautiful Packaging.
  • Lacks Coverage.
  • Poor Colour Collection… for darker skin or very pale skin.
  • Greasy Texture.
  • Creasing when set with powder.
  • Short Lasting.

I am utterly gutted. I really wanted to love this product, but unfortunately it just didn’t work for me. Don’t let this put you off however, not everyone is as pale as me or has a lot of redness/dark circles so it could be a lovely natural finish concealer for someone.. it is just such a shame that someone is not me. I really tried to love it, but unfortunately it just wasn’t meant to be!

Have you tried this concealer? How do you feel about it? If you loved it please tell me why! I need some positives right now.. I need some reassurance that there are people out there who can love it unlike I can! Thanks for reading,

Until next time,
B xoxo

  1. Very nice review. :) ..actually I feel tempted nw to buy rimmel product. It has actually been a year I hav nt purchased anything new from rimmel…this satday..m sure m going to buy this concealer.

  2. I’ve been using this concealer for awhile now. I like that it’s light weight and gives some coverage, but it definitely isn’t right for everything. I mostly use it when I just want to brighten under the eyes, not for spots.
