Recently I have been having a real good root through my makeup collection, as I own so much of it and barely use it. I wanted to have a look and almost rediscover some old favourites, and start using some of the products that I completely forgot I owned. Of course, this was pretty much a recipe for disaster as it was inevitable that there were going to be products that I don’t like, or I did really enjoy but now I am not so fond of. This will be almost a second impression for some of these products as I haven’t used them in so long, and my skin has changed so my opinion has changed also. I want to make a quick little disclaimer as well, being that even though I may have loved something in the past, just because it is in this post it doesn’t mean I hate it, but I will explain why it has disappointed me and if I will continue to use it or not. Let’s do this!
My first disappointment comes in the form of the L’Oreal Nude Magique Eau De Teint Foundation. Now I remember actually enjoying this foundation at one point and finding it very comparable to the Maybelline version, although now I have reused them I am seeing more of a difference and this one is one I don’t think I can use anymore. First of all, the colour is so dark for my complexion, but I am pretty pale and I understand that it is really hard to colour match my fair skin. Second of all this foundation is so much more greasy than the Maybelline one. I find that it has so much oil in it and it really doesn’t react well with my now combination/oily skin. Even though it is oily, I find that it looks rather dry on my skin and will accentuate any dry areas and look very textured and dry. I just cannot get on with this one anymore.
Next up we have the Collection Sheer Loose Powder. I have talked about this product before, and I still find this very disappointing. The shade names/colours are all off, it looks so heavy and cakey on the skin and just emphasizes any dryness on my skin and just doesn’t look good! This is another product I don’t use and I wish it would work for me as it is so affordable, but I am not too fussed as I have found a £4 loose powder that I am OBSESSED with… coming soon!
Now, the Milani Luminoso Baked Blush will come as a great surprise and this is tried and loved by me in the past, but the whole reason that this blush has made it on my disappointments is the shade. I haven’t used this blush in such a long time, and when I was rooting through my collection I was so excited to reuse this product as I know I loved it so much before! The first couple of times that I used it I still loved the formula and pigmentation of this blush, but it just wasn’t doing it for me like it used to. After a couple of times I realised what was disappointing me was the shade, it was extremely orange toned on me and it just wasn’t flattering my skin tone. For this reason and this reason only, I am not currently using this. I think if I get a little more colour in my skin then I may love the shade a bit more, but for now this one can go into makeup storage..
The Rimmel Scandaleyes Mascara seems to be one of those classic mascaras that Rimmel is known for. I hear plenty of people talking about it and I understand that it is a good mascara. For me this one just fell a little flat for me though. I find it was a good mascara, but it wasn’t wowing me or doing anything extraordinary for me to really love it. I have other mascaras that I prefer much better and that is why I am finding this one to be a little more disappointing.
Now, I love a good lip product and I was excited when my partner surprised me with this Mac Patentpolish Lipstick in the shade Berry Black Friday. First of all, I want to give my respects to him for noticing that I love my berry shades and noticing that I am fond of a good mac lippy, 10/10 for effort! Unfortunately, this one fell way too short for me.
You can see by the swatch that this colour is just too sheer, and picks up on every little hair on my hand and is pretty patchy (this is with a few coats too). On the lips it does the same exact thing but with any dry or chapped areas on the lips. It just isn’t flattering, it isn’t rich in pigment like I would like, and even though it isn’t long wearing in the slightest, it still loves to stain like a bitch! I have never, and will never be able to enjoy this product as that is my personal preference, but I will still always love their regular lipsticks!!
Last by not least we have the Bourjois Illuminating Loose Powder. Now, I am a sucker for packaging and I just love the packaging on this little guy! It is so beautiful. Unfortunately the product inside fell a little short for me and I don’t enjoy it as much as I hoped. When I first bought this I thought it was beautiful, but now I find it a little underwhelming. I do not like a strong highlight by any means, I like to keep things pretty natural but this is in that awkward region of -too natural to be a highlight but too glowy to be a face powder- and I struggle to find a use for it. I will sometimes use it to highlight the face, but I usually find my self going back with a different highlight to make it pop a little more. Plus as it is loose it spills easier than a pressed highlight and just gets everywhere. If I ever had dry skin then I might be able to use this as more of a face powder or just to add some subtle glow to the centre of my face but I am combination/oily so it would look a real mess on me! So unfortunate as I really want to love this one!
So there we have some disappointing products, I hope you guys enjoyed and please let me know if you have tried any of the products mentioned and if you had the same problems or if you loved them?! I would love to hear what you think!
Until next time,
